The wedding industry here in Japan is like nowhere else I know. There are so many chapels to choose from and they all offer a complete in house service from the dress all the way to the photographer. When I was living in Okinawa I worked for one of these wedding companies for a while and as a photographer I would sometime shoot two weddings per day often six days per week. I literally photographed so many wedding that I lost track on just how many I had shot in total. It isn’t a stretch to think I may be one of the more experienced wedding photographers in Japan.
After a while, I decided to start Blue Pacific Media and shifted to freelance wedding photography as one facet of my media production business. The shift meant a lot less weddings, but also offered me more time to hone my wedding photography skills, avoid burnout and spend a lot more time working on each set of wedding photos. I began receiving requests from the couples I had shot with to shoot more photos with them after the ceremony, at more dramatic locations. This really allowed us some extra time to make the images more personal to each couple rather then the standard set offered by the bridal company.
Below are a few examples from a great shoot I did with an amazing couple, who had been officially married for several years but had not had the opportunity to have a dream wedding ceremony until this day. It was a privilege to be their wedding photographer on this special day.
