I was contracted through Kafuu resort to shoot a wedding ceremony for a young U.S Marine couple. Aaron was preparing to deploy and his fiance Madeline flew to Okinawa from the U.S for the wedding. I have shot hundreds of wedding for resorts in Okinawa, but this was the first time to shoot a wedding with all the traditions of the U.S.M.C, it was a lot of fun to say the least.
Madeline was radiant, for a young bride in a foreign land surrounded by her husbands second family (his fellow marines) I can only imagine she felt out of sorts, but she was so happy and in love that her smile lit up the room.
The marines have many traditions and in many ways are very much a family, a USMC wedding is very much an induction into that family for the bride: The display of arms, dress uniforms and the traditional slap on the bum from the sabre are something I had never seen before, but they all seem so fitting.
