Katoku beach, located on the island of Amami in the Okinawa archipelago of Japan, is a wonder of nature. This beach hamlet is the last natural beach on the island and one of the last 3 unconcreted seaside villages in Japan. The beach is home to many species of sea turtles including the critically endangered North Pacific Leatherback turtle.
There are currently plans in place to develop a very large concrete seawall along the beach that will not only destroy the beach but also the sea turtle population.
This documentary takes a look at the people who stand bravely against the development despite nearly overwhelming opposition from both government and profiteers.

鹿児島と沖縄の間に位置する奄美大島。
この島にある村のひとつで、嘉徳という美しいビーチがある集落がある。
しかし、近年、この島の自然が脅かされているのはご存知だろうか。
嘉徳ビーチは、奄美大島でも唯一コンクリートのない、昔から自然のままで保たれている。
日本中を探しても、この様なビーチは数少ない。
しかし、このビーチ全面に、6.5mもの高さの防波堤を建てようと計画されている。
更に、ビーチに繋がる河口をも塞ごうとしているのだ。
しかし、その政府の計画に反対して、自然保護に力を入れている人々もいる。
